As I usually do when I'm going out to visit my dad in Milton, I take the train at Union Station and sketch people while I'm waiting.
I saw Christina (@islandofmangos ) and knew this was not going to be a covert sketching session.
She was sitting tall and proud and had a killer look. So I asked if I could sketch her and she agreed. In the course of our session, I found out she is an animator and fellow artist. Small world.
Well here she is in all her glory.
Thanks, Christina!
Sumo Size Terunofuji T-shirts in Stock!
Yokozuna Terunofuji won the last tournament and it had a direct affect on my Terunofuji t-shirt sales! This was the first time that a world event like that had a direct impact on my business. It was quite amazing.
If you are in the market for a 2XL or 3XL size Terunofuji t-shirt to wear in time for the September tournament, don’t be shy and send me a message, please.
Drawing Matt Stonie
I’ve made it a practice now whenever I’m drawing portraits from a reference photo to add vertical and horizontal guidelines on the photo and duplicate those lines on my drawing surface. It helps as reference markers when I drawing the portrait.
April 1-6, 2024 Sketchbook pages
After drawing everyday for a year in 2023, the habit has formed. I don’t feel right without drawing at least every few days in 2024. Here’s my entry for April 1-6. For all the entries to my 2023 drawing everyday project, you could visit my youtube channel, @wilwongart.

Sayanora
Well sad to see my big boys leaving, but i’m glad they’ll be in a new home that appreciates them as much as I do!
CAUGHT!
De sat across from me on the subway and his family was next to him. I knew there'd be a high chance of being discovered, but De had a great face aching to be drawn.
So I did and I was discovered by his son and daughter.
Photo credit goes to his daughter, Kayla.

It’s a black, cotton, 10 oz t-shirt, printed with a film process. It’s 45$ CAN + shipping.

Covert Sunday Morning Op...
I read somewhere cafe sketching is like the crack cocaine of drawing in public… I couldn’t agree more!
Sumo Coasters
My niece gave me a great idea to expand the merchandising of my sumo portraits. I have printed 5 of my sumo portraits onto ceramic tile coasters. They have arrived and they look great! (top, l-r: Terunofuji, Takayasu, Tachiai. Bottom, l-r: Asanoyama, Tokushoryu)
A New Home…
I love when clients send me pictures of my art hanging in their new homes. My painting arrived in San Fransico and it looks great. Be well, big boy. I’ll miss you,

Painting Crushed Beer Can and Working Through an Art Rut
I finally finished the painting of a crushed Creemore beer can. It took about two months, a little longer that it normally would have taken me because I was in a rut. I really didn’t feel like working but what got me through it was just being consistent. Doing a little at a time, but doing it every day or close to every day.
Here are some process shots of the entire painting process for your viewing pleasure.
On The Easel Tonight…
Returning to my crushed can paintings. Currently painting a can of Creemore, one of my favourite beers. In fact, it was my first beer I ever drank when I was in first-year university (I know, i’m a late bloomer).
Sayanora, Big Buddy
The pack rat in me is sad to see my portrait of Tokushoryu go, but the artist in me is happy that it’s going to a new home.
Andrew Loomis Portrait Tutorial
I created a self portrait tutorial video based on Andrew Loomis’ approach to portrait drawing. You could see it here.
